On 29 June evening Govt of India announced that it has been banned 59 apps including popular applications TikTok, Helo, UC Browser and WeChat which are harmful for integrity, sovereignty, defence of India and security of state and public order. Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) said informed through press release that 59 apps were banned as they engaged in harmful activities for integrity, sovereignty and defence of country and security of state and public order.
Ministry also says that they are receiving many complaints are report regarding misuse of mobile apps in Android and iOS platforms for stealing and transferring data in unauthorized manner to serve outside India.
The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre has sent request to block these banned apps from country.
